Raw Rice – 1/4 cup
Moong Dal/Paasi Paruppu – 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
Water – 1/2 cup
Salt – a pinch (optional)
- Wash the rice and dal together in a vessel.
- Pressure cook the rice and dal with water and turmeric powder (and salt, if using), for about 1 whistle or until the rice is cooked.
- This rice is prepared usually for Pongal and Aadi Perukku by Tamil families based in Tirunelveli and Palakkad.
- This rice is usually had with coconut bits and grated jaggery as sides.
